Educating Our Future With Pride
Raising the Bar and Closing the Achievement Gap for All Students

Moline - WIU Forge Engineering Partnership

At its May 27 meeting, the Moline Board of Education learned of an articulated agreement between the school district and Western Illinois University in which students can earn credits that will count toward a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering while still in high school. The agreement charts a path for students that includes a combination of Project Lead the Way, Dual Credit, and Advanced Placement Courses that Western will honor to fulfill degree requirements. Because students need to experience a rigorous curriculum and take prerequisite courses that will prepare them for the upper level high school coursework, the district will begin to communicate the plan to students and families beginning as far down as elementary grade levels. Questions about the program should be directed to the counseling office at the high school. A document from the Board packet and the district press release are included here.

Board Approves New Boundaries Effective 2015-16

The Moline Board of Education approved new boundaries at its Monday, April 28, meeting.  These boundaries will be effective for the 2015-16 school year to coincide with the opening of the new Hamilton School and closing of Garfield and Ericsson Schools.

Families affected by the changes will receive letters from the district. There are grandfathering provisions in place for certain families associated with the transition to new attendance centers. Additionally, accommodations will be made for the 2014-15 school year to help ease the transition for families of entering kindergarten students and their siblings.

In summary, beginning in the fall of 2015, current Ericsson students will attend Lincoln-Irving School, and current Garfield students will attend the new Hamilton. In addition, some current Lincoln-Irving students and a small number of current Willard and Butterworth students will attend the new Hamilton.

In an effort to house more students in climate controlled buildings, balance class sizes, and reduce split grade level courses, the boundaries committee recommended to the administration an option that included realigning boundaries to maximize enrollment at Roosevelt School. The Board approved this administrative recommendation. Therefore, in addition, some current Willard students will attend Logan School, some Roosevelt students will attend Jane Addams and students in select neighborhoods will move from Jane Addams and Logan to Roosevelt.
