Art is a nine week (one quarter) required class in both seventh and eighth grade. In the middle school, visual art emphasis is on “hands-on” experiences designed to help students understand their cultural heritage. A variety of media (pencils, crayon, water color, tempera, etc.) is explored to encourage students to recognize their own abilities and to foster their interest in continuing in visual art at the high school level. An important aspect of the program encourages students to keep track of their progress through the creation of a portfolio of their own work.
